Full Color Yearbooks: Section Header Designs by Students

Friday, December 19th, 2008

Full color yearbooks leave a lot of room for creativity and it is possible to turn each section into something special. Since it`s usual for yearbook sections to have an intro page, these pages are usually done in black and white to save on costs. However, when you`re working with a full color yearbook, there`s no need to skimp.

Section headers can be full of fun stuff. One very popular method of creating something unique for these pages is to have students illustrate them. This can be done by just one student, or have a group work on the page, though you may find it easier in this case to let them draw or paint a large sheet and then photograph it for easier working.

With a full color yearbook, there really is no limit as to how elaborate you can make the section header pages, so why not turn them into something that is fun and interesting and representative of the section they are beginning? Kids love to design these pages and are perfect candidates for such a job.

Make full use of your full color yearbook, turning these section headers into something unique and fun for everyone, with plenty of color.

You can get a lot of ideas for full color yearbooks from scrapbooking. The backgrounds are often a colorful riot of interest that set off the photos beautifully. While you certainly don`t want to distract from the pictures themselves, it can be fun to add a little something behind the photos in your yearbook.

Solid blocks of color. These can be a great way to add some interest, just put some blocks of colors that compliment the pictures in the background.

Patterns. Fairly simple patterns, such as stripes or small dots, work well as backgrounds. Don`t forget to match the colors to compliment the photos.

Faded photos. Whether you use the same photos or baby pics of the same students featured, just fade them to about 20% for a fun background that isn`t too distracting.

Take advantage of the full color yearbook package and use color everywhere to make the yearbook brighter and more exciting.

Is a full color yearbook worth the price? Most schools feel they are. Look at your options carefully, talk to your students and make the decision that best fits your school.
