Yearbook Ladders and Planning for D-Day

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

It`s getting close to time to send off your yearbooks for printing and your yearbook ladder should be quite helpful in planning for the big day. It can be stressful this time of year, with everything else you have to think of, but if you`ve done your job earlier in the season, it will be a lot easier in the next couple of months.

Now is the time to work out a careful plan for the next semester. Make sure that your students know when their deadlines are and remind them in plenty of time so they can work out their own schedules.

While your yearbook ladder is a good way to keep on track, you`ll still need a more detailed plan for what will be done when. That might require using a calendar, but at the very least, you should set mini-deadlines, times when certain projects or pages of the yearbook need to be completed.

Yearbook planning is very important if you want to enjoy the rest of the school year without stressing about deadlines too much. Plan ahead and you`ll be fine.

Create Impactful Black and White Photos

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

Yearbook photography needs to be interesting or no one will be interested in purchasing the yearbook. Even if you have black and white pages, you can still turn your photos into something amazing that will draw people in.

With black and white photos, you`ll find that contrast is vital. When the world is reduced to shades of gray, it`s good to have some strong contrast. Make sure there is a bit of white and black in each photo. If this doesn`t occur naturally, you`ll want to adjust the contrast in your photo editing program.

Equally important is the brightness used in your photos. You`ll need to ensure that they aren`t so dark as to obscure the details, something that happens very easily with black and white yearbook photography.

Impactful photos will have a good mix of tones, but will be particularly strong in black and white, creating the balance needed.
