Teaching Yearbook Photography to Willing Students
October 29th, 2008
You will likely find that some of the students most interested in yearbook photography actually have very little experience with it. The good thing is that enthusiasm goes a long way and with digital cameras, you`ll be able to teach these students how to take some great photos.
Yearbook Photography Points to Teach
- Rule of thirds. Keep the main focus of the photo in one of the points formed by dividing the screen into imaginary thirds, both horizontal and vertical.
- Focus. Students need to learn how to focus the camera so the main subject is clear while the background is out of focus.
- Capture movement. Teach students how to move the camera smoothly to capture a motion.
- Lighting. The proper use of natural lighting is vital when dealing with yearbook photography. The more natural light available, the more stunning the photos.
Of course, there is plenty more that can be taught, but perhaps the best way to get great yearbook photography is to simply let the students experiment with angles and camera settings. You might just love what they come up with.
